
Following from our submission to the People’s Select Committee on Pay Equity last year, NCWNZ board members had the great privilege to attend the launch of the Committee's final report on the government’s actions to overturn our formerly world-leading pay equity legislation.
The Committee's 10 former MPs from diverse political backgrounds came forward with one powerful voice to deliver their message to New Zealanders on our government’s actions, and they did not pull punches.
Eight key themes came out of the Committee’s analysis of over 1,500 submissions received. The analysis honours the impact of these sweeping overnight changes to the Pay Equity Act and acknowledges the voices and statements of those deeply affected.
While the Committee has many recommendations based on the submissions and their analysis, the main message was clear: correcting this injustice is in the hands of all New Zealanders. We must come together and take action to ensure women and human rights never come a distant and disrespected second to a government's budget agenda ever again.
