NCWNZ urges immediate action to close Gloriavale

Gloriavale

NCWNZ is asking its membership and all New Zealanders to urge their local MPs to close the Gloriavale Institutions. The Abuse in Care Inquiry has shown that women and children are still at risk.

NCWNZ have called on government to take immediate action to secure the protection, safety and wellbeing of all the residents of the Gloriavale Institutions in a letter to the Minister for the Prevention of Family and Sexual Violence, Hon Karen Chhour MP.

In response to evidence of continued abuse and exploitation, the NCWNZ Safety Health and Wellbeing Action Hub, supported by the Education, Economic Independence and International Action Hubs have sent a letter to the Minister asking what action is being taken to address the documented sexual abuse and widespread harm, exploitation and offending taking place at Gloriavale.

Crucially, we also asked the Minister what response is in place to protect women and children still living at these institutions?

Following the Abuse in Care inquiry, NCWNZ remains deeply concerned that urgent action has yet to be taken and women and children remain at risk. Please contact your local MPs to help us ensure that these vulnerable women and children are no longer exposed to harm and abuse.
