Dunedin's Inspiring Young Women Breakfast

On August 10th, Year 12 and Year 13 young women from nine local high schools and colleges sat down at 7 am in the Edgar Centre to breakfast in Dunedin. While eating hash browns, bacon, eggs, mushrooms and breakfast sausages they listened to six wonderful successful women who are leaders in their professional fields. The panelists included a woman who employs 200 game designers, a leader in the fashion world, a forensic anthropologist, a firefighter and a leader in sustainability. All the speakers encouraged the students to go with their passions, to take every opportunity offered, to work through obstacles and to remember the fact that success may mean following many surprising pathways.

This is the tenth year we have run this very successful careers breakfast. This year 120 students and staff took part, and the feedback from the schools was extremely positive.

Dunedin NCW Breakfast August 2026

We are fortunate to have very generous sponsors: Mercy Hospital, Otago University, and Otago Polytech. This allows us to subsidise the breakfast, so we are able to charge only $10 a head and no student is excluded by cost.

This is our major community event, and the Branch is grateful to Elisabeth Cunningham and her team of Beverly Henderson, Janice Sinclair and Colette Blockley who work very hard to ensure this is a very popular event in the school year.
