    On August 10th, Year 12 and Year 13 young women from nine local high schools and colleges sat down at 7 am in the Edgar Centre to breakfast in Dunedin. While eating hash browns, bacon, eggs, mushrooms and breakfast sausages they listened to six wonderful successful women who are leaders in their professional fields. The panelists included a woman who employs 200 game designers, a leader in the fashion world, a forensic anthropologist, a firefighter and a leader in sustainability....

  • Dunedin Branch Breakfast for Inspiring Young Women

    At 7 am on a fresh Dunedin winter’s morning, 100 young women from the local secondary schools gathered at The Edgar Centre, Dunedin’s premier sporting area, to listen to six inspiring young women who have followed diverse paths to achieve real success in their fields. The aim of this breakfast is to show students that, even though you face apparently insurmountable obstacles, there is often an unexpected pathway to success.

    On a crisp winter's morning, the NCW Dunedin Branch hosted its eighth annual Inspiring Young Women breakfast. The venue reached capacity as 103 senior secondary school students and teachers gathered to enjoy a cooked breakfast and be inspired by our panel of speakers.

  • In Memoriam: Anne Rodger MNZM, Life Member of the Dunedin Branch

    Dunedin branch members were shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden death on 23 November 2023 of a valued and loved branch member, Anne Rodger. Just days before, she had been MC at the 100th birthday celebrations of the Dunedin Women’s Branch of the Labour Party, after returning from a South Seas cruise with daughter Gillian. She had been ill, but this was unexpected. The citation for a well-deserved MNZM in the New Year’s Honours List of 2019 stated:...

  • NCWNZ Dunedin hosts “Inspiring Young Women Breakfast”

    The Dunedin Branch of National Council of Women held its sixth annual “Inspiring Young Women Breakfast” recently, at which six women, successful in their chosen careers, spoke to Years 12 and 13 girls from 9 local secondary schools, about their journey to where they are, the obstacles they met and how they overcame them.
