“The National Council of Women is pleased to congratulate Renee Graham on her appointment to this important role” says NCWNZ National President Rae Duff.
“It’s very exciting to see new leadership for this organisation, I’m sure New Zealand women will benefit from Ms Graham’s new ideas and fresh thinking.
Both the National Council of Women and the Ministry for Women are working hard to address the cause of gender inequality. NCWNZ has a strong relationship with the Ministry for Women and a great respect for the important work that they do.
We still have a long way to go until we can proudly say we have achieved gender equality in New Zealand. Women are being paid 11.8 – 14% less than male counterparts; one in four women experience intimate partner violence or sexual violence in their lifetime; and women only occupy about 30% of seats in Parliament. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with the Ministry for Women to address these issues and to working closely with Ms Graham.
Together we can do more.”
